Tartan trousers now are cut like modern day suit trousers with a straight waistband, whereas tartan trews are a traditional Scottish garment, having a much higher waistline, a wider waistband, slimmer cut and a unique fishtail back design. Tartan Trews with Highland Heritage

In fact the Trews is the more ancient of the two. Prior to the kilt becoming the norm, Highland regiments and clan wearers wore the Highlander's traditional clothing including men’s tartan slacks to have both tradition and a contemporary look. It is today known as "trews", either alone or in addition to a kilt. Contemporary tartan trousers have been adapted to a more modern and regular-trouser style.

If you have a clan connection you can select a tartan from a connection to your own clan. One may not want to or simply prefer a particular pattern but there are many of our tartans which are used more generically in the aesthetic sense without the need to stick with a family/clan.

All the tartan trousers for men are manufactured in acrylic wool tartan fabric. It will retain its colour over time and is durable and hard wearing, and it will not fade wash after wash. The fabric is warm without being too stiff or restrictive, for comfortable wear day in and day out, not only for particular special events.
